Since being back I have learned just how blessed I truly am to live in a country like the US of A. It is AMAZING here! I had no idea how awesome it was until I lived abroad in a developing country and learned to do without for 11 months. But being back I am seeing each day all the joys of being an American citizen! Allow me to share a few of the finer points of our lovely culture...(in no particular order)-Air conditioning
-Drivers who only honk when necessary
-Drivers who stop at red lights
-Drivers driving cars with all 4 doors intact and in workable open-close condition
-People respecting noise regulations
-Free food samples at the grocery stores
-CUSTOMER SERVICE
-Speaking in English
-Not being whistled at by unattractive old men when walking down the street
-Being able to run around the neighborhood without looking like a freak
-Organic, healthy food and no-sugar options
-Paper bags at the check out line, and baggers who excel at the bagging trade (there is an art to packing food space-consciously)
-Sunflower seeds! :)
-No daily power blackouts
-Being able to throw toilet paper IN THE TOILET
-The smell of fresh air while walking down the street (ahhhh)
-Water in the ouse never being turned off
-Coupons!
-Pumping my own gas and driving my own car
-Not sweating profusely 24/7
-Craft stores
-Renting movies from Red Box
-Being up to date on pop culture!
-Not looking out of place when wearing flats
-Green lawns, public parks
-The absence of gates and locks and fences on and around everything
-Mailboxes and cheap stamps
-Having a cell phone with reliable service
-Loose leaf lined paper
-Biscuits, Cookout milkshakes, flavored coffee, dried fruit, zucchini, cheesecake, any kind of berry, and having a million different varieties and brands of EVERYTHING
-Not looking like the worst dressed person all the time
-Hearing something other than merengue or bachata music on the radio
-Public libraries and bookstores
-Carpet
-And my favorite favorites about being back? Catching up with good friends and spending quality time with the family :)
